E1 Area Guide

E1 is mainly known for Aldgate East, Shadwell, Whitechapel and Stepney areas but you will be surprised how many other areas the E1 postcode covers. E1 being just outside the City walls was very popular with businesses like breweries and slaughterhouses, which in the 16th century wasn’t welcome within the boundaries of the City. Businesses slowly grew within Whitechapel and surrounding the River Thames areas which attracted people from the neighbouring areas. Despite the close proximity to The City and Canary Wharf, E1 has not experienced the same standard or degree of regeneration until the past decade. E1 has become a desired location for young City & Canary Wharf professionals because of the proximity to The City of the financial district in Canary Wharf.
